Study task 1: WHY AM I HERE & WHAT DO I WANT TO LEARN?

5 REASONS I DECIDED TO STUDY THIS PROGRAM:
1.    Graphic design at LCA is not just an academic course it introduces and prepares an individual for professional practice unlike other courses.
2.    There is a equal focus on the theoretical side as well as the practical side of graphic design.
3.    It is one of the only specialist colleges left in the UK, which offers modern and traditional resources.
4.    The smaller environment allows for better interaction with tutors and other students.
5.    The content of the syllabus on the program involves working on live briefs and distributing work into the industry.

5 THINGS I WANT TO LEARN DURING MY TIME ON THE PROGRAM:
1.    I want to learn how to keep learning as I progress as a professional designer, ways to keep creativity flowing with contemporary practice.
2.    How to work in a professional and efficient manner: utilizing time, utilizing materials, and learning to communicate with a client.
3.    How to incorporate different disciplines into my work effectively.
4.    Learn how to apply norms/conventions within graphic design and also how to challenge them.
5.    Learn how to distribute my work within the industry.

5 SKILLS THAT I THINK ARE MY STRENGTHS:
1.    My work has clear thought processes within each stage of research, development and final outcomes, shown through visual and written evidence.
2.    I tend to always organize and a document my work in a logical order.
3.    I feel I have an eye for photography, this is practiced within my day to day life (digital and film)
4.    I constantly summarize, evaluate and re-evaluate my work.
5.    I always try to incorporate traditional as well as modern processes within my work.

5 WAYS I WILL EVALUATE MY PROGRESS:
1.    One-to-one tutorials with tutor.
2.    Entries into a reflective journal, which I can read back on.
3.    Getting involved with group crits and presentations.
4.    To blog work onto websites/internet and take on board comments and feedback which will be received from others.
5.    Peer-to-peer learning.

5 QUESTIONS I WANT TO FIND THE ANSWER TO:
1.    To what extent does graphic design actually affect and audience and their decisions?
2.    Which areas within graphic design do my strengths lye within?
3.    How can I develop my work so that an audience is affected by it?
4.    How can I individually impact/ contribute to graphic design?
5.    What are the fundamentals to graphic design?

5 IMPROVEMENTS THAT I WANT TO MAKE OVER THE NEXT 3 YEARS:
1.    To receive more peer feedback on my work, and to consider and make changes accordingly.
2.    To be more clear and concise when evaluating and generally producing written pieces.
3.    To understand codes and conventions when it comes to grid systems/layouts and to confidently be able to challenge them.
4.    Learn how to use new software such as Adobe illustrator and strengthen my skills on Adobe Photoshop.
5.    To consistently use correct terminology and vocabulary relating to graphic design.

IDENTIFY & EXPLAIN 5 THINGS THAT INSPIRE YOU:
1.    Film photography: Taking multiple exposure photographs using my 1960’s Diana mini and seeing the outcome when developing my photos, the excitement flowing through my body as each bunch of photos will be completely new and the anticipation to see what has layered upon what is thrilling.
2.    Graphic designer & illustrator, David Foldvari: His work touches on controversial subject areas; his willingness to be confident in illustration and designing depictions relating to these issues with a light hearted and non-bias mind is inspirational on many levels.
3.    Traveling: Traveling and seeing diverse cultures around the world, landmarks and cities sparks my creative cells, ordinary is boring, change is good as it develops a individual as a person and there outlook on life.
4.    ‘DIY’ on Tumblr : Other peoples creativity, such as the DIY section on tumblr.
5.    Poetic verses/lyrics: Text/written content that contains quotes/ phrases that make you think/ that have multiple philosophical meanings.
